How do I figure out the right size to order?
We have a detailed information in our sizing guide. Each brand may vary slightly, so we recommend checking that brand’s size chart before ordering. Some items have additional sizing information in the item description based on our personal experience.
What should I do if the item I’d like is out of stock?
We carry a limited number of pieces from each brand that we work with.
Most items are from seasonal collections and once they are sold, we won't be able to get more.
What is the best way to wash my items?
Our recommendation is to wash at 40C (around low-medium heat) and then hang to dry. Most customers outside of North America don’t have clothes dryers, whereas they’re quite common here. They may tumble dry some items to get most of the water out and then hang on the clothesline to dry. It helps save energy too!
What does GOTS Certified mean?
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard and it is an internationally recognized certification. The certification can apply to either products or to the entire company. Companies seeking this certification have to meet a number of different requirements for criteria covering “production, processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, exportation, importation and distribution of all natural fiber products.”
- The material must be at least 95% organic, as certified by “recognized international or national standards.” If the material is 70% organic, it can be labeled as “made with organic.”
- The material needs to be processed separately from conventionally-grown fiber.
- Inputs like dyes and oils need to be biodegradable and free of harsh chemicals like phthalates, PVC, synthetic sizing agents, and chlorine bleach, and they must keep full records of any chemical inputs to their manufacturing process.
- The fiber cannot come from a genetically modified organism.
- Facilities must maintain minimum fair labor practices from the International Labor Organization.
- Farmers and producers need to be certified, and those certifiers have to be accredited GOTS or hold an internationally recognized accreditation.
- Fabric and products must meet high standards for residue testing.
How do I make a purchase?
You can check out as a guest if you think that you’ll only purchase once – although we hope that you’ll come back! We suggest that you create an account on the website, which will speed up future purchases. An account allows you to verify your order status, update your information, check your rewards balance, and access any store credit that you have.
How do I use the promo code that I have?
Once you have added items to your Cart, you can click on the ‘cart’ icon in the upper right corner of the website. When you are reviewing your order, enter your promo/promotional/coupon code in the ‘Discount’ data entry field.
Please note that Shopify does not allow you to combine discount codes, so only a single promotional code can be used on a purchase.
We are unable to retroactively apply discounts, with the exception of the Welcome Discount for customers who signed up at the same time, or before placing their first order.
What is the currency on your website?
Modern Rascals is based in Canada. Our website defaults to the Canadian dollar ($123.12 CAD) and has a currency converter built into the website, which you can use to select your currency (if available). We are pleased that we can now accept purchases in both USD and GBP.
Please note that if you are checking out in USD or GBP via PayPal, PayPal will charge their own currency conversion and this is outside our control. If you would like to minimize currency conversion charges we recommend checking out directly with your credit card through the website.
Prices published on the website and the final invoice will be in Canadian dollars unless you have selected one of our other currency options. If you purchase in CAD, the final amount showing on your credit card statement or PayPal transactions will depend on the currency and any commissions that your bank or selected form of payment may charge. If you have any questions about these fees, please contact your financial institution directly.
Please note that our base currency is Canadian Dollars. If you complete your purchase in a non-CAD currency and need to return an item, the amount refunded will be based on the CAD dollar amount and the current day's exchange rate, which may be different than the exchange rate at the time you completed the transaction.
Our Rewards Program is also offered in Canadian Dollars and any discounts in dollar amounts off the cost of your item will be based given in CAD.
Why did the price of my Cart jump so much when I went to check out?
We're a Canadian based store and our default currency is CAD. If you would like to checkout in USD or another currency, simply select this option from the currency drop down at the top of any page outside of the checkout process.
If you complete your purchase in CAD your Credit Card or PayPal will exchange this to your local currency.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express through Shopify’s shopping cart. We also accept PayPal, for those of you who don’t have a credit card or prefer to keep things streamlined. If you want to use PayPal and do not already have an account, you will need to open a PayPal account in order to complete your purchase.
Please note that all credit card/financial information will be encrypted, and will not be disclosed to third parties. Your credit card information will only be used to complete your purchase or to issue refunds/returns where applicable. All transactions are secure and encrypted and credit card information is never stored. All transactions are completed by Shopify or PayPal, depending on which checkout option you chose, and are subject to their Terms and Conditions.
Do you offer AfterPay or Payment Plans?
AfterPay isn't available in Canada at this time.
We do offer a Lay Buy payment option, powered by PayPal. You can read the full details on our Lay Buy page. As well as Sezzle.
What is the sales tax?
Taxes are based on the shipping destination of the order.
Orders shipped outside of Canada are not subject to any sales tax.
Orders shipped within Canada will have sales tax applied as follows:
- All children’s clothing will be subject to 5% HST, except in Newfoundland and New Brunswick where they will be subject to 15% HST
- All adult clothing, toys, kitchen items, and patches will be subject to the appropriate GST/PST/HST for the applicable province
How do I know if I placed my order successfully?
If you have placed your order successfully you will receive an order confirmation email. Once we have processed your order, you will also receive an email with shipping details. If you have an account with us you can also log in to view the status of your order.
Can I cancel my order?
We’ll be sad to see you go, but as long as your order hasn’t shipped yet you can cancel it by emailing us at email@example.com. You can log into your account to check the status of your order. We are currently shipping orders out from Monday – Friday, and operate under a very strict time deadline. We will do our best to cancel the order before it leaves our warehouse, but if you have already received a shipping confirmation, it may be too late.
My parcel says it was delivered but I haven’t received it. What do I do?
Take a deep breath! Some mail carriers will scan a package, and it will be marked as ‘delivered’ before they've actually dropped it off at your place.
- Check around your front door to see if it's been tucked somewhere less obvious.
- Check with neighbours to see if it's been dropped at the wrong house (or in the case of community mailboxes, if the key was left in the wrong post box).
- We also suggest contacting your local post office to see if it’s being held there (in case a missed parcel slip blew away/went missing).
- Lastly, call your postal service to see if they can open an investigation. They may be able to talk with the delivery driver to see if they remember where they left the package
- Reach out and let us know and we'll be happy to help try and track it down!
Postal theft is unfortunately, becoming increasingly common. Package insurance only covers the parcel while it is within the postal system and does not cover packages after they have been left at the door/your house.
If your package has been stolen, please contact your local Mail Provider, and Police Station to report the theft, as it is likely happening to other people too. If theft is common in your area, we recommend having the post office hold your packages for pickup in order to minimize the risk of them going missing. We are working on offering a signature required option during shipping checkout as an added safety measure.
We are unable to replace packages that have been stolen after delivery.
What if a package gets returned?
If a package is sent back to us or is returned by the postal service, we will credit you back the amount of your order, less any additional shipping cost or taxes incurred as a result of the returned package. We will contact you to let you know what the credit balance is on your account.

Can you gift wrap something for me and/or include a greeting card?
Of course - it'll be simple and cheerful! We believe in creating minimal waste and use recycled kraft paper (rather than shiny, single-use wrapping paper) to wrap items - particularly large toys.
Please leave a comment in the note to seller section of the checkout and we can definitely wrap something for you. Please indicate the holiday (birthday, Christmas, etc.) and let us know what you’d like the card to say so that we can include the note. And so that we make sure we don’t include the invoice!
What do you do with my information?
We use your information to process and ship your order. Modern Rascals never has access to your credit card or payment information, as transactions are all processed through the PCI compliant environments at Shopify or PayPal.
We will never sell your information or provide it to third parties.
