This pentagon is tessellatable. That's not really a word but what it would mean if it was is that this shape can be closely fitted together, in a repeated pattern, without overlap or gap. The set has 90 pieces, 30 each of 3 colours: natural, black and white.
The combination of the tessellate and colour means that a large range of patterns can be created.
The trick is in understanding the basic shape, made from 4 pieces, that then repeats. How colour is used determines the endless possibilities of pattern making.
This activity is highly engaging and sharpens your focus. Working out how to make patterns by using the colours in different ways....it is a lot of fun.
